Mission Statement:
The purpose of the organization known as HBT shall be to provide a healthy environment for the development of young people through the sport of competitive swimming by encouraging good sportsmanship, teaching stroke skills and techniques, and assisting in the development of strong healthy bodies, building self-confidence, self-esteem, discipline, and developing high ideals of character- attributes to benefit these young people throughout their entire life.

NAC Summer Sizzler
The HBT swimmers faired very well this past weekend in Nashville. With teams from all across the midwest attending, many new faces were seen and raced against.
Angelica Chapman (14) was most successful by finaling in all 6 of her events, including wins in the 200 back and 100 fly. Angelica had personal bests in all of her swims.
Other HBT swimmers scoring were: Claire Williamson (14)with a 5th place in the 100 fly. Just missing a summer sectional cut by .04! Sasha Zoller(13) finaled in the 400 IM (7th) and 100 back (8th). Nicole Smith (9)- 15th 200 free; Kaitlin Mans (12)- 13th-400 free; Olivia Butler (12)- 14th- 400 free; Leah Thornton (17)- 16th-200 IM.
Securing new SE cuts were: Olivia Butler- 200, 400 free; Shelby Hall (13)- 200 IM, 100 free; Kaitlin Mans - 200 IM; Ali Smith (11)- 50 free; Nicole Smith- 200 free.

BSL Summer Splash
Good swimming done by HBT swimmers at the BSL Summer Splash. The team finished 4th with only 29 swimmers! Acheiveing new SE cuts were: John Alfano (10)- 200 free; Jaimie Mans (9)- 200 free; Kaitlin Mans (12)- 50 breast, 400 free; Tailin Pan (11)- 50 free; Hunter Whitehurst (10)- 50 free, 200 IM, 200 free; Claire Williamson (14)- 100 breast; Finley Clutts (13)- 400 IM, 800 free; Shelby Hall (13)- 400 IM.

Baylor TYR INVITE
Very good showing by a small contigent of HBT swimmers. Several swimmers were event winners, including Angelica Chapman (14)- winning 8 events; Finley Clutts in his last 11-12 meet winning 7 events; brother Peyton (10) won the 50 free; Leah Thornton (17) won 3 events and had 6 runner-up finishes and Nicolas Young (10) won 3 events
Highlights include many new SE cuts- 19 total and 3 new team records!

Those swimming to the SE standards were:
John Alfano (10)- 50, 100 free; Olivia Butler (12)- 50, 100 back, 100 fly, 100 free; Peyton Clutts (10)- 50, 100 breast; Vanessa Hughes (10)- 50, 100 back; Allison Smith (11)- 50, 100 breast; Nicole Smith (8)- 100 back, 400 free; Hunter Whitehurst (10)- 100, 400 free; Tyler Whitehurst (10)- 200 IM, 400 free, 100 breast and Sasha Zoller (13)- 50 free.
Setting new team records were Finley Clutts (12) in the 200 free and the 13-14 girls 200 free and medley relays of Claire Williamson, Natalie Swindle, May Young and Sasha Zoller

Orange and Blue Meet- Clutts brothers lead the way!
Finley (12) and Peyton (10) Clutts led the HBT team to a very good showing in Auburn. Peyton was the high point winner in the 9-10 boys and brother Finley was runner-up in the11-12 boys age group! Finley broke 4 more team records (all his) in the meet. His best event was the 400 free with an exciting victory in 4:48.8! Smashing by 9 seconds the record he set 2 weeks proir. His other record swims were the 50, 100 fly, and 100 free.
Not to outdone- brother Peyton had 6 swims that were Top 3 finishes! He won the 50 fly and 100 free!
Swimmers achieving new SE LC standards were: Angelica Chapman (14)- 800 free; Peyton Clutts (10)- 200 free; Jamie Mans (9)- 50, 400 free; Kaitlin Mans (12)- 100 breast; Catherine Reinagel (18)- 200 back; Natalie Swindle (14)- 200 fly, 200 free; Hunter Whitehurst (10)- 100 back; Tyler Whitehurst(10)- 100, 200 free, 50 breast and Sasha Zoller (13)- 200,400 Im, 200 bk and 400 free.

Long Course season off to a good start
The 2008 Long course season got off to a good start at the Don Gambril invite in Tuscaloosa.this past weekend. Most swimmers showed improvement in their lc times from last summer.
Six new team records were established- 5 by Finley Clutts (12)- 100, 200, 400 free and 50, 100 fly and one by Catherine Reinagel (18)-50 fly.
Establishing new SEC cuts were: Finley Clutts(13)- 50, 100, 200, 400 free, 100 fly ; Shelby Hall (13)- 200 free; Vanessa Huhges (10)- 200 IM, 50, 200 free, 100 fly; Jaimie Mans (9)- 50, 100 back; Catherine Reinagel (18)- 100 breast; Natalie Swindle (13)- 200 IM, 100 free, 400 free; Tyler Whitehurst (10)- 50, 100 back; Claire Williamson (14)- 100 back; Nicolas Young (10)- 50, 100 back and Sasha Zoller (13)- 100, 200 free, 100 back.
Congrats to Leah Thornton (17) and Finley Clutts (12) for winning the high point in their respective age group.

SE Championships- HBT 2nd place in small team!
One Top 16 time, 5 new sectional cuts and 10 team records broken!
HBT swimmers faired rather well at the largest SE Championships in history. 955 swimmers were entered in the meet. HBT garnered 2nd place as a small team (under 15 swimmers in the meet) and was 13th overall.
Nicolas Young (9) highlighted the meet with a blazing 50 breast time of 35.09. This is the 7th fastest sc time of the year in the country for 9-10 boys and well under the T16 time of 35.99! Nicolas won the event and broke the team record. He also swam to a 1.19.74 in the 100 breast- finishing 3rd. His time is the 3rd fastest in the nation for 9 year olds.
Finley Clutts (12) continued his blazing finish to the season by establishing 5 new team records and scoring in 5 of his 7 events. New records set were: 50, 100, 500, 1000 free and 50 fly!
Leah Thornton (17) set 3 team records (100 back, 400 IM and 1000 free) while scoring in all 7 events she swam.
Kreable Young (15) had a great meet by garnering 3 new sectional cuts ( 500, 1000 and 1650 free). She scored team points in the 1000 and 1650 free!
Others scoring for HBT were: Cameron Bass (17)- 500, 1000 free and 200 breast. The 200 breast was a new sectional cut!; Catherine Reinagel- 200 fly new sectional cut; Peyton Clutts- 50 back and Graham Carr - 1000 free.

High School Meet
Congrats to all HBT swimmers competing in the 2007 Alabama State High School meet.
Junior John Carroll HS swimmer Leah Thornton came away a state champion for the 3rd year in a row. She won the 100 back and came in 2nd in the 100 fly.
Others scoring in individual events were: Cameron Bass- 2nd 500 free, 9th- 200 free; Kreable Young- 5th- 500 free, 10th- 200 free; Natalie Swindle- 14th - 50 free; Claire Williamson- 8th- 500 free, 12th 100 fly; Lauren Everette- 16th- 100 free and fly; Emily Lin- 14th-100 free, 16th -100 back and Graham Carr- 8th- 500 free and 100 back.

Congrats to Leah and Cameron
Cameron Bass and Leah Thornton were announced as Scholastic All-American Swimmers for the 2006-7 season. This honor recognizes achievement in the classroom and in the pool. Great job gals!
